TSF is supporing the UN assessment teams in Burma

Teams from TSF arrived in Burma in the aftermath of typhoon Mahasen at the request of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA); they have been deployed in the State of Rakhine to assist the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination teams (UNDAC).

In the first days of the disaster response, TSF experts assessed damage to telecoms infrastructure and provided telecommunications support to the evaluation teams using the specialized equipment that the NGO brings with it.

After that, TSF carried out a study of the various telecoms equipment available in the Sittwe area and made recommendations. The aim of this evaluation is to enable OCHA teams and local NGOs to have access to alternative communication solutions in case of the interruption or saturation of telecom networks.

As part of the same operation, TSF experts also trained the technical manager of OCHA in ICT emergency solutions.

As the cyclone had caused only a small amount of damage to telecommunications networks, Télécoms Sans Frontières left the country on 23 May 2013.
